Elections:
Voters
Everything you need to know to vote in Vermont!
Military Voting
As military personnel you have the right to participate in voting in all
Vermont elections.
We try to make it easy for you to vote in Vermont – even while you are stationed
out of state.
You, or an authorized family member acting on your behalf,
may apply for an early voter absentee ballot by telephone, in person, or in
writing. A "Family member" means your spouse, child, sibling, parents, spouse's
parents, grandparents, and spouse's grandparents. You can also authorize a
non-family member to apply for an absentee ballot on your behalf - but this
request must be made in writing or in person. Absentee ballot requests can be
made up until 5:00 p.m. or the close of the town clerk’s office on the day before the election –
but because ballots must be returned by the close of the polls on election day,
its best to get your request in early!
If you request early, your town will send you your ballot
thirty days before the election to give ample time for you to vote the ballot
and return it by Election Day. If, for some reason you request your ballot too
late for regular mail, your town clerk can fax a ballot and absentee ballot
certificate to you and you can return you ballot by any express delivery
service. If you do not have a fax machine in your location, and it is too late
to receive a ballot from your town clerk, you can vote a federal ballot and
return it by express delivery.
