Last Day to Register To Vote for the Primary Election: Tuesday,
September 5, 2006
- Noon on the second Monday before the election is the
deadline for registering to vote. (Extended to the next
business day due to Monday being a holiday.)
First Day to File Petitions and Consent Forms for Independent
or Minor Party Candidates for the General Election: Friday,
September 8, 2006.

Primary Election Day: Tuesday, September 12, 2006
- Polls open between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. as determined by
the local board of civil authority. All polls must close at
7 p.m.)

Deadline for Filing Petitions for Independent Candidates, Minor
Party Nominations or major parties that failed to nominate in the
Primary, and for Filing Statements of Nomination for Justice of
the Peace or Independent petitions for J.P.: Friday, September 15,
2006
- All petitions except for Justice of the Peace must be filed
with the Secretary of State, 26 Terrace St., Montpelier, VT
05609-1101 by 5 p.m. on September 15, 2006.
- Statements of Nomination and Petitions for Justices of the
Peace must be filed with your Town Clerk prior to office closing
on September 15, 2006.
Primary Election Results Made Official by Canvassing
Committees: Tuesday, September 19, 2006
- We will make primary election results available as soon as
possible on our web site.
Campaign Finance Filing Deadline: Monday, September 25, 2006
- Report must be filed by all candidates, political committees,
and political parties that have raised or expended $500.00 by
September 23rd. (Candidates for U.S. Senate and Representative to Congress need to check
with the FEC for filing deadlines.)
