CHARLES BOHI of Hartford, Windsor County, Democrat, was born in Estherville, Iowa in 1940 and has lived in Hartford, Vermont, since 1972. Charles earned a B.A. from Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa, in 1963 and a M.A. in American History from Case-Western Reserve University in 1969. He was a high school history teacher for thirty-five years, retiring in 1998. Beginning with a year at Oskaloosa, Iowa in 1963, Charles taught in Cleveland, Ohio for five years, Lansing, Michigan for two, and Hanover, New Hampshire for twenty-seven years. While teaching in Hanover, Charles was President and negotiator for the local union, kept statistics for various sports teams and coached J.V. basketball for five years. He was also a Fulbright Exchange Teacher in Edmonton, Alberta in 1980-81. After retiring, Charles served on the Hartford School Board for seven years, on the Board of Civil Authority, and as a substitute Meals on Wheels driver. An avid railway historian, Charles has authored or co-authored four books and more than 100 articles that have appeared in various railfan and historical journals as well as giving lectures on the subject to a number of local groups.     JOHN J. CLERKIN    


JOHN J. CLERKIN of Hartford, Windsor County, Republican, was born on March 19, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, attended grade school in Woodsville, N.H., and became a resident of Hartford, Vermont, in 1959. He was educated at Hartford Schools; UVM (B.A., 1971), where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1964. In addition to Real Estate and Insurance Brokerage education, he earned a Legal and Paralegal Studies Certificate (2004) and a Graduate Certificate in Applied Conflict Studies (2006) from Woodbury College in Montpelier, Vermont. He is married to Patricia K. Clerkin and they reside in Wilder and have three daughters and three grandchildren. He has served as Assistant Town Manager of Hartford, Vermont (1970s); Town Manager for the towns of Hartland and Castleton, Vermont; Hartford’s Highway Superintendent. In 1980, he entered the real estate brokerage field. He and his brother, William, presently own The Clerkin Agency, a real estate and insurance brokerage firm in White River Junction, Vermont. He is a Justice of the Peace, Grand Juror, Notary Public, and Agent to Prosecute and Defend Suits. He is a former Hartford Selectman. He currently holds real estate and insurance licenses in Vermont and New Hampshire. He has served on numerous local boards and commissions and is a Past President of the Windsor County Board of Realtors, (Realtor of the Year in 1984), Past President of the Vermont/New Hampshire Multiple Listing Service, and former member of the Board of Directors of the Northern New England Real Estate Network.
