MOLLIE BURKE
of Brattleboro, Windham County, Progressive/Democrat, grew up in Buffalo, New York and on the Niagara River in Canada. She received a BA in Political Science from Marymount College after spending an undergraduate year at the London School of Economics. She returned to the LSE for graduate work before changing course to embark on a career in the arts. In 2007 she earned a Master of Fine Arts from Goddard College. Since moving to Vermont in 1970, Burke has been active in the Brattleboro community as an artist, and as a teacher of art and figure skating. She has engaged adult artists and young students in poster exhibitions to promote energy conservation, and recently founded Art in the Neighborhood, an organization that provides classes to economically disadvantaged youth. As a Vermont Arts Council juried artist, Burke has worked in many Vermont schools as an artist-in-residence, and has taught other teachers at the Vermont Alliance for Arts Education annual conference. Burke has been a Town Meeting Representative since 1990. She is on the advisory board of Brattleboro Climate Protection, working with town government on energy issues.
