SUE MINTER of Waterbury Center, Vermont, Democrat, Washington County, was born in Bryn Mawr, PA in 1961. She moved to present town in 1991. She received a BA from Harvard University, Magna Cum Laude, in 1984, and a MA in City Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1990. Sue is married to writer David Goodman and they have one daughter and one son. Sue has worked as a professional planner in Vermont and overseas, addressing land use planning, transportation policy, downtown revitalization, community development, and public involvement. Minter currently works as a Planning Coordinator for the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Affairs. She is active in community affairs, serving as a member of Revitalizing Waterbury, a past member of the Waterbury Planning Commission, and volunteering as a Waterbury Youth Soccer coach. WASHINGTON-CHITTENDEN-1 TOM STEVENS TOM STEVENS of Waterbury, Washington County, Democrat, was elected to the General Assembly in November 2008. He has served as Chair of the Waterbury Select Board and President of the Waterbury Village Trustees. Stevens is currently the Executive Director of the Vermont Alliance for Arts and Education, supporting the development of arts education programs and professional development throughout the state. He is also Education Director at the Waterbury Congregational Church and Director of the Vermont Dictionary Project, which teams with service organizations across the state to provide dictionaries to third grade students. Tom has served as a board member for the Children’s Room and Revitalizing Waterbury, for whom he chaired the Downtown Designation Committee, which resulted in Waterbury gaining Downtown Designation in 2006. While his children were young, he was the stay-at-home parent. He revisited his professional career as director and production coordinator for QuarryWorks Theater at the Adamant Music School and, in 2008, recorded the audiobook version of Archer Mayor’s “Open Season.” Stevens has an interest in preserving and restoring the vitality of Vermont’s small communities through renewal and public/private partnerships. His role for VAAE takes advantage of his commitment to the importance of the arts in a well-rounded education. Representative Stevens was born in New Haven, Connecticut on June 25, 1961 and grew up in Hamden, Connecticut. He attended Boston University, earning a bachelor’s degree in fine arts, theatre. Stevens lives in Waterbury, Vermont, with his wife, Liz Schlegel, and their three children, Kate (legislative page, 2008), Augie and Cormac. |
