JOAN G. LENES
of Shelburne, Chittenden County, Democrat, was born on February 24, 1951, in New Britian, CT, and became a resident of present town in 1979. Occupation: Educator. She was educated at Winter Haven High School, Winter Haven, FL, the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL (BA Sociology 1973); University of Vermont, Burlington, VT (M.Ed. 1980). She is married to Helmut A. Lenes and they have one daughter and one son. Joan serves as a board member at Champlain Valley Union High School, Child Care Resource, and Connecting Youth in Chittenden South Supervisory School District. Joan’s community involvement also includes membership in the Charlotte/Shelburne Rotary and Shelburne Business and Professional Association. She coordinates and drives for Meals on Wheels as well as being a founder of Robin’s Nest Children’s Center. She had previously worked and taught at UVM in the Center for Service-Learning. She owned and operated Climb High, a premier outdoor mountaineering business with her husband. Memberships: Champlain Valley Union High School Board member; Child Care Resource Board and Chair; Connecting Youth Board member, Meals on Wheels coordinator and driver. She had previously worked and taught at UVM in the Center for Service-Learning and had owned an outdoor sporting goods business in Shelburne with her husband.
