          ERNEST W. SHAND           


ERNEST W. SHAND of Weathersfield, Windsor County, Democrat, was born in New Haven, Connecticut, on February 3, 1940, and became a resident of present town in 1973. He graduated from West Haven High School and attended Southern Connecticut State College and New Haven College. He served four years with the United States Coast Guard. His career in the telephone industry started with the Southern New England Telephone Company, retiring from Bell Atlantic in June 2000. He has been married to Loraine (Cookie) Shand, a teacher, for 40 years. They have four grown children, and five grandchildren. He has served on the Select Board in Weathersfield; as deputy chief and training officer of the Ascutney Volunteer Fire Department; and as an ambulance service volunteer. He is an active member of the Ascutney Union Church. He is a trustee of the Proctor Library in Weathersfield and a trustee of the Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation.
