    CLAIRE D. AYER    


CLAIRE D. AYER of Weybridge, Addison County, Democrat, was born in Quincy, Massachusetts, on September 21, 1948. She grew up in Charlotte, VT, graduated from Champlain Valley Union High School, Jeanne Mance School of Nursing (RN, 1969), and Middlebury College (BA, Environmental Studies, Cum Laude, 1992). Occupation: registered nurse in a Middlebury OB-GYN office. She married Alan Ayer, a physician, and they have two daughters and a son. After four years in the U.S. Air Force, they became residents of Weybridge in 1979. As a director on the board of the Otter Creek Natural Resources Conservation District since 1992, Ayer has worked with local landusers, state and federal agencies, and non-profit organizations to help landowners conserve resources while protecting water quality. She worked to develop cooperative relationships between Vermont agencies dealing with the environment and agriculture. While representing twelve Northeastern states, she led national committees dealing with natural resource conservation policy and funding. Local community service includes work on the boards of the Weybridge School, the Middlebury Area Land Trust, the Weybridge Conservation Commission, and the Lake Champlain Sea Grant Committee. She is a founding member of the Middlebury River Watershed Partnership and an advisor to the UVM Extension Natural Resources Board. Member of the Senate: 2003-2004, 2005-2006. Home phone: 545-2142. HAROLD W. GIARD of Bridport, Addison County, Democrat, was educated at Bridport Elementary School, Middlebury Union High School, and St. Michael's College. Occupation: Dairy farmer and small business owner. He is married to Shirley and they have a daughter, Sara. He was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives from 1972 through 1980.
