STEPHEN J. GREEN
of Berlin Town, Washington County, Democrat, was born in Muncie, Indiana on May 22, 1940. Occupation: Retired from the United
Nations; author/writer. Educated at Lawrenceville School in N.J.; Middlebury College (B.A. 1962); U.S. Peace Corps (West Africa)
1962-64; New York University Law School 1964-65 (no degree), Asst. Director of Programs, American Friends of the Middle East
(1965-67). Director, Vermont Office on Aging (1970-71); Chief, Manpower Support Services, Vermont Dept. of Employment and
Training (1971-72). UN employment with UNICEF (1967-69 and 1972-76); Dept. of Humanitarian Affairs (1994-96); Dept. of
Peace-keeping Operations (1996-97) and World Food Program (under contract during 1990-2000) for whom he established and managed
international emergency operations. Member, Berlin Town Selectboard (1980-81) and Berlin Planning Commission (2002-2003). Four
published books on international emergency assistance and on U.S. intelligence and military relations in the Middle East; guest
editorialist, Christian Science Monitor, 1988-1990. Married to former Helgard-Gisa Schmidt; two daughters. Member of the House:
